Route 29 - Lychburg Bypass

A bypass around Lynchburg has been discussed for decades. Now, it’s a reality. And Hurt & Proffitt is pleased to have been a big part of it.

It’s an important project because U.S. Route 29 is the main north-south artery for Central Virginia, an area heavily dependant on its manufacturing economy and thus in need of excellent roads to move the billions of dollars worth of goods that are produced.

The bypass goes around the City of Lynchburg, with its ends connecting U.S. Route 29 in Amherst County and Campbell County. The bypass crosses the historic James River on two new double-lane bridges.

The entire project is nearly 30 miles in length and has a total construction cost of more than $350 million.

Hurt & Proffitt has provided nearly all surveying needs on this mammoth road and bridge project. And our geotechnical engineers went down deep for much of the subsurface information needed for the design and construction.
