Coalfields Expressway

In the treacherous mountains of far Southwest Virginia, there is being built a new, 51-mile, four-lane highway. Projected cost: $1.6 billion.

Hurt & Proffitt is providing a great deal of geotechnical and geological services – with single borings being drilled hundreds of feet through solid rock – as well as a ton of surveying.

The Coalfields Expressway is even more noteworthy in that it’s being designed and constructed through a public-private partnership led by Kellogg, Brown & Root (Houston, Texas).

This is one of the most innovative road projects in Virginia, and Hurt & Proffitt is pleased to be an integral part of it.
