Lake Taylor High School Athletic Field

Hurt & Proffitt provided an existing condition and topography survey of an existing parking lot and athletic field #9 at Lake Taylor High School. Survey located all site improvements to included utility lines, manholes, fencing, light poles, curb & gutter and trees larger than 6″ in diameter. Surface elevations were collected on an approximate 50′ grid and as necessary to accurately define the surface drainage patterns. Once the project was completed H&P provided our client an AutoCAD drawing file of the area surveyed. The total area of the project was approximately 6 acres.

Heritage High School Practice Field & Locker Room

Hurt & Proffitt provided topographical surveys, wetlands mapping, site plans, and geotechnical investigations for the additions and renovations to the new practice field and locker room on the Heritage High School campus.

In 2005 the Lynchburg City School Board selected Hurt & Proffitt to design a new practice field for Heritage High School. The School Board wanted the new field to be placed in the area of the existing parking lot behind the High School. The existing parking lot was not used by either students or faculty therefore allowing the area to be abandoned as a parking lot.
Hurt & Proffitt created layouts indicating how the area could be developed into a full size football field with an odd shaped practice field adjoining. Additionally, we designed a field house with locker rooms and coaches offices.

Prince Edward Co. High School Athletic Complex

Hurt & Proffitt, Inc. just completed the Feasibility Study and Master Plan for the Prince Edward County High School Athletic Field Complex. The purpose of the Study and Master Plan was to determine the best orientation to separate the combined baseball/football field, add a new softball field and add a new practice field. In addition, the Study and Master Plan included new Field House, Concession Building with Public Restrooms, Ticket Booths, new irrigation systems for each field, selection of new sod for each field, new lighting systems for each field, new press boxes and bleachers for each field. The Study and Master Plan included Preliminary Construction Cost Estimates for all the items needed to complete the complex along with schedule alternatives to be considered by the Prince Edward County School Board.

Buckingham Co. High School Football Field

Hurt & Proffitt provided all engineering needed for improvements to the Buckingham County High School Football Field. This included the civil design, construction administration and inspection as well as all construction surveying and topographic surveys for this project.

The existing field at Buckingham County High School had serious problems. The varsity field was flat and stormwater did not drain off the playing surface. Standing water and limited irrigation caused problems for the grass surface. New design for the field included sufficient slopes to allow for drainage, an automatic irrigation system, a drainage system to remove the surface water from the new sod playing surface.

The design was prepared as the School Board required and completed within budget and on time. The construction started in the mid-Spring and was completed in time for fall football season in 2007.

Appomattox Co. High School Baseball Field

In early 2008, Hurt & Proffitt prepared design specifications to outline what was needed to fix the Appomattox County High School Baseball field. The field was in poor shape. The outfield was very uneven and it presented a danger to the players. The bleacher area drained into the infield causing it to pond when it rained. As part of the preliminary design, our survey team gathered topographic information on a 25 FT grid to get an accurate representation of the existing conditions. Hurt & Proffitt, met with Mr. Perrow, ACPS Director of Business, to provide information to help the school board see what was required to renovate the baseball field.

Hurt & Proffitt provided the design plans for the completion of the field. We were constrained by the elevation of the existing fence in all but one location where a two-foot hump along the fence line needed to be removed to create a flat playing surface. Making sure that water flowed away from the dugouts and off the field presented another design challenge. Hurt & Proffitt lowered the area around the bleachers so the infield could drain and smoothed the playing surface while providing enough grade to drain the water off of the field.

Hurt & Proffitt provided the irrigation plan, and we coordinated with the Town of Appomattox for the water connection. We also provided a stub for future irrigation of the football field.
