Hurt & Proffitt offers a comprehensive benefits package to full-time employees after sixty (60) days of employment.

Some highlights of the benefits package are:

  • Professional development & training including employee education assistance, tuition reimbursement, in-house training in Information Technology & CAD, industry seminars & workshops, and financial reimbursement for professional exams and licenses
  • Fitness reimbursement up to $150 per year for active fitness club membership to encourage employees’ wellness and healthy lifestyle
  • Personal leave for sick or personal reasons (5 days per year) for family or personal business
  • Performance evaluations after sixty (60) days and at anniversary date
  • 401K consisting of a retirement and profit sharing plan with company match to ensure employees’ financial security
  • ESOP Employee Stock Ownership Plan after one (1) year of service with the company
  • Medical insurance with three different plans including a Health Savings Account (HSA) compatible High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) offering choice to our employees

  • Section 125 Cafeteria Plan offers employees supplemental health insurance, flexible spending account for non-reimbursed medical expenses, and dependent child care cost in pre-tax dollars through AFLAC
  • Vacation offers (10 days) per year after 1 year of service and maximum of twenty (20 days) per year after 15 years of service
  • Holidays offers eight (8) paid holidays including New Years Day, Easter Monday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving & the Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day
  • Bereavement leave offers paid time to employees for the death of an immediate family member
  • Christmas Club savings offers employees savings account through payroll deduction with a local bank
  • Direct payroll deposit offers employees direct payroll deposit bi-weekly for checking and savings accounts

Moving to Lynchburg from Chicago, IL was quite a change, but a good one. While I think there is no greater large city in the world than Chicago, Lynchburg has plenty to offer and has kept me here for over 10 years. From just a quality of life view, I don’t know many places that would be better than right here. None of the real problems of a large city, but still big enough to find what you are looking for. And if you want to get away, Charlotte, Washington DC, and Williamsburg/VA Beach are all just about 3 hours away. Plus if you like outdoor activities, there are tons of options all around. Boating, hiking in the mountains, fishing, and golfing (over 10 courses) are all within an hour of town.

Professionally, H&P has assisted me in obtaining my masters degree in Engineering. They have also provided any other professional development needed, be it technical or managerial. I’ve also been given the opportunity to work on numerous types of projects with different clients, including James Madison University and almost every nearby locality.
